Your SEO Strategy: Shot on Target or Shooting in the Dark?

Many businesses over-rely on automated SEO audit tools like Ahrefs and Semrush, leading to vague strategies, pointless tasks, and wasted money. SEO audits, which are static website evaluations, often lack value for decision-makers and don’t consider competition.

A shift is needed: replace audits with an SEO roadmap. This roadmap is business-focused and forward-looking, offering clear, actionable plans tailored to your industry and competition. Here’s why an SEO roadmap is more valuable:

Focus on Competitors: Unlike audits, which are internal, a roadmap considers what works in your niche and for competitors, driving relevant actions.

Actionable for Everyone: A roadmap is easy for all team members to follow, not just SEO experts, making it more effective for business growth.

Traffic and Revenue Focused: Instead of concentrating on abstract KPIs like "Domain Authority," a roadmap prioritizes increasing traffic and revenue, aligning SEO efforts with business goals.

Q&A’s WITH IBRAHIM

Hi, there!

Hope you’ve had a great week so far, and as we’re stepping into the weekend, I wanted answer some of the questions I received.

Here we go:

Question from Theo (Founder, Chief Everything Officer): First of all, kudos for the great newsletter!! There is so much helpful information! Here is my question: I would like to know where and how to place my landing page. On a subdomain, as my new homepage, as a separate page, ...? I'm struggling to find information. Thanks.

My response:

You’re welcome, and appreciate you reading the newsletter!

To answer your question, it actually depends on what you’re looking for, and the flexibility offered by the tool you’re using to build a landing page.

  • For instance, a tool like Replo lets you build a landing page on top of the Shopify’s root domain (eg: peelaways.com/pages/caregivers) because it is directly integrated with Shopify, where you can control the backend of the landing page within Shopify as well

  • In other cases, a lot of tools don’t let you do that as it’s not directly integrated within Shopify, so they require you to have a sub-domain (eg: caregivers.peelaways.com), and to make this happen, you’ll be asked to add a CNAME record in your DNS system (eg: GoDaddy)

  • I don’t recommend making your landing page as your home page because a LP should be built to target one specific audience, with one specific angle (we learnt about different audiences and angles in Athletic Greens’ LP breakdowns), where in, a website home page should be able to speak to multiple audiences, so your messaging would be not as targeted as a LP, but still speaks to multiple audiences. And even if you have just 1 audience that you’re going after, you can still have multiple angles

  • My suggestion here would be, to build your LP within your root domain as a separate page (eg: peelaways.com/pages/moms or peelaways.com/moms) if the LP builder lets you, if not, build it as a sub-domain (eg: moms.peelaways.com)

  • Whether you have the page via a sub-domain or as a separate page, your SEO won’t be affected. In both the cases, they get to enjoy the fruits of the root domain’s perks

Question from Nicholas (CEO): Hello, my question is how is the best way to utilize FBA selling best seller’s items and maintaining reasonable competition with silly Items whilst simultaneously trying to build a profitable and professional brand all under the same Amazon Sellers Account Handle? Is it best to obtain a second identification in a foreign country and applying for 2 Amazon selling accounts. 1 for silly high volume items, and 1 for my own personal “military” gear shop on amazon? The fba model is how I prefaced my business plan for my “military” gear shop, But I am learning that this will be a “slow and low” burning business that sells high ticket Items with lower volume at first. I obviously would be stupid to ignore the current market trends and utilizing them for my own financial gain. Thank you for taking the time to read this, In the meantime while I wait for a response I will look into my options. 1 Love, -Nicholas Laurens, SOKOLOVV INC.

My response:

Okay, good question!

Firstly, if the silly items you’re selling are a part of the professional brand (military gear), you cannot open a second Amazon seller account. I mean, technically you can, as there’s no approval policy while opening it up, but that will violate Amazon’s account policy, and would affect both of your account’s health score. And eventually, you would be prevented from selling until resolved.

Here’s what Amazon has to say about setting up multiple accounts:

You may only maintain one Seller Central account for each region in which you sell unless you have a legitimate business need to open a second account and all of your accounts are in good standing. If any of your accounts are not in good standing, we may deactivate all of your selling accounts until all accounts are in good standing.

Examples of a legitimate business justification include:

  • You own multiple brands and maintain separate businesses for each

  • You manufacture products for two distinct and separate companies

  • You are recruited for an Amazon program that requires separate accounts

So my suggestion here would be:

  • If your military gear products and the silly high volume products belong in the same niche and are part of the same business/brand, you should not open up a second account, and won’t be allowed either

  • If they belong in the different niche, but you’re looking to sell under the same business, you may have to set them up as 2 different brands, and then open up the second Amazon seller account, which is something I would recommend as well since it would streamline your accounts and keep everything organised. If you hire a CFO or have a CFO already, he/she will thank you for this!

    • To be on the safer side, you can speak to an Amazon executive to ensure you meet the criteria of owning 2 separate brands, as they might ask you to provide additional information and documents

Also, this is a great video to watch in regards to the question you have.

Question from Melissa (Co-founder): I hate the fact that Amazon does not let us email our customers and 70% of our sales come through Amazon, so we can never re-market to our own customers - is there any way we can email these customers?

Response:

This is one problem pretty much everyone that sells on Amazon has thought about at some point. There are a couple of ways to solve this, but you can obviously get a lot more creative:

  • You can use a tool such as BRIJ which tries to bridge this gap

  • You can insert a thank you card and have a QR code as a part of your packaging, that directs these customers to your website. Why? Because they are incentivised in some way (eg: when they subscribe on the website, they get a $10 voucher)

Question from Max (CMO): Do you have any recommendations on any software that provides audience insights without breaking the bank? We’re a bootstrapped company so we dont have thousands of dollars to spend on these softwares

My response:

SparkToro does a fantastic job at this!

  • For instance, you could be selling supplements, and your direct competitors could be Athletic Greens

  • You can go to Spark Toro, enter that URL, and learn more about that audience

  • The best part is, you can create a custom audience, and drive traffic to the audience that visits any specific URL

Alright folks, that’s it for today.

I’ll see you all next week inside the nuggets, and until then, have a great weekend ahead!
