🤑 The power of discounts
📰 TL;DR - A survey from 2 Visions looked at how different generations view discounts, and the results are quite interesting! First, and this shouldn’t be a huge surprise, 62% of shoppers will wait for some sort of discount before purchasing apparel. As well, shoppers are twice as likely to make a purchase if offered 20% off and 99% more likely buy for a sweet 50% off. Also: Gen Z is most likely to trust discount codes, while millennials are more willing to sign up for email or texts if it means a discount is on offer.
💡 Insight - The whole report is worth reading for some great insights, including some interesting stuff around Black Friday/Cyber Monday. For my two cents, I think 10-15% has stopped being very compelling. Pretty much every e-commerce site is happy to offer me that much with an immediate pop-up — true bargain hunters want something better. Of course, it’s not very profitable to constantly offer 15%+ off, but this data may help you plan your next seasonal sale.

👀 Amazon expands AR and 3D tools
📰 TL;DR - Amazon has partnered with Hexa to offer AR and 3D capabilities to sellers on the platform. Sellers just need to upload their Amazon ID number into Hexa to get access to these tools, which also include capabilities for virtual try-ons and 360 visualizations. This follows big pushes into AR from Snap, which found 80% of shoppers feel more confident with a purchase when they get to use AR before buying.
💡 Insight - I have a feeling 3D images and AR are going to become the norm. They’re a proven conversion tool and we all know that when Amazon normalizes something, it has a ripple effect across e-commerce. Thankfully, it’s gotten easier than ever to implement these visualizations. Increased confidence in a purchase is also a big deal — that means lower return rates, which we all love.
😇 How to define your brand values
📰 TL;DR - Here’s a guide on how to both define your brand values and showcase them to shoppers. Because it’s not just enough to have values you hold onto — there’s an opportunity to showcase them in web copy, on social, in your packaging, and internally with employees. This article uses the great example of Boy Smells, a candle and fragrance company that has gender expression and inclusivity baked in.
💡 Insight - I know there was a time when it would seem absurd for an e-commerce company to have values or viewpoints on social issues. But that time is gone. There’s a ton of data out there backing up the fact that shoppers — and Gen Z in particular — want to buy from brands that take a stance. That comes up in marketing, but also in the ethics that back up how a brand is run. Know who you are and don’t be afraid to share it.
