✍🏼 Don’t forget the alt text!

📰 TL;DR - Here’s something it’s very possible you’ve overlooked until now: alt text. Alt text is added to help those who are blind or have any level of difficulty seeing navigate the internet by describing images. Adding alt text is an important step for accessibility and is very appreciated by this community when it’s included. This guide goes over how to include it in your marketing and specifically on social media. There’s a bit of an art to alt text, so give this a read.

💡 Insight - I want to note that alt text is also very important for your product pages so people of all abilities can shop with you. All your images should have it. This can be a bit tedious, but I found a great helper: ChatGPT (or the chatbot of your choice).

I asked ChatGPT: “write alt text for an image of a silver watch with a black leather band”

And it gave me: "Image: A sleek silver watch with a round dial and elegant black hands. The watch features a minimalist design, with a stainless steel case and a black leather band. The band is securely fastened around the wrist and has a smooth texture. The watch face displays the time with precision, using clear hour markers and a smaller sub-dial for seconds. It exudes sophistication and modernity, making it a stylish accessory for any occasion."

Which is great (though a bit long!) and has a nice number of adjectives as well as texture notes. Obviously, edit for accuracy if you give this a try.

🔥 10 gorgeous e-comm websites

📰 TL;DR - I found this great thread from e-comm website designer Karina Shtogryn rounding up some really beautifully designed sites. Of course, Karina is using this to plug her own work but they are indeed very nice! If you look close, you can see the skeleton of Shopify but each has its own unique flavor. Maybe you’ll find some inspiration for yourself.

💡 Insight - I’ve realized I find myself returning time and again to e-commerce shops that have memorable design. That might mean splashy colors, or something minimalist, or whatever, but something about them left an impression. If you’re not a designer yourself, I think it’s worth doing some reading and research to learn design fundamentals when creating a site. Or, of course, outsource. It’s a pretty vital part of your branding and shouldn’t be half assed.

🏳️‍🌈 Pride campaigns that are actually good

📰 TL;DR - Pride Month is in full swing, and so is Pride Month marketing. Many brands mark June with rainbows and promos, but not all campaigns are created equal.
