😯 Amazon is in trouble over Prime
📰 TL;DR - The FTC has set its sights on Amazon Prime. This week, they accused Amazon of enrolling thousands of people in Prime without their consent using “dark patterns” of deception. They also allege Amazon tricks people into automatic renewal and makes it difficult to get out of the subscription. For Amazon’s part, they say the allegations are “false on the facts and law.”
💡 Insight - Could this be why Prime is so popular? Really, it’s probably mostly the free shipping and streaming platform, but this does raise questions. This is part of the US government’s push to hold big tech accountable, but let it be a reminder that if you run a subscription service, it should be as easy to end as it is to start. Not that the FTC is likely to sue you like this, but it’s still a good call.

💳 Shopify expands Shop Pay availability
📰 TL;DR - Shopify announced its making Shop Pay, its one-click checkout solution, available beyond just Shopify merchants. The company says the move comes as demand rises for Shop Pay, which has 100+ million users. This is targeted at large, enterprise retailers. Like, big global players. It’ll be available through Commerce Components, a suite of commerce tools.
💡 Insight - It’s always fun to watch Shopify and Amazon go toe-to-toe. Shop Pay is of course Shopify’s answer to Amazon Prime’s one-click checkout. Which, I’ll remind you, Shopify told merchants is not welcome on Shopify-powererd stores. Overall, anything that makes Shop Pay more used and more visible is good news for merchants who have it enabled.
🌅 How to make an ~aesthetic~ Insta grid
📰 TL;DR - Here’s a guide on how to make your Instagram aesthetic — which just means cohesive and pretty. The basic concept is picking a particular look and style and sticking to it, no matter what kind of content you’re posting. Aim for things like consistent lighting and color schemes that tie in with your branding. If your logo and website is bright and colorful, your Instagram should be too.
💡 Insight - I’m gonna be honest — I used to think this style of Instagram grids was a little cheesy, but on my own account I found that engagement rose when I stuck to one style. So, anecdotally, don’t overlook this! Think of your Instagram as an extension of your branding, and make it look the part.
