Why Most DTC Brands Are Losing 30% of Sales (And How to Fix It)
Happy Thursday!
You know, most DTC brands are leaking revenue without even realizing it. On average, 7 out of 10 shoppers abandon their cart before completing a purchase. That’s 70% of potential sales just… disappearing.
But here’s the kicker—most brands recover less than 10% of those lost sales. That’s leaving thousands (or millions) on the table.
Why? Because they rely on weak, generic reminders instead of a proper system to bring people back.
Here’s what actually works:
Catch them early – Don’t wait. A well-timed email or SMS within the first 30 minutes can recover 20-30% of carts alone.
Make it personal – “Hey John, you left this in your cart” hits way harder than “Complete your purchase.”
Stack incentives smartly – Not every cart might require a discount. Test free shipping, social proof, or urgency as well!
Use multiple touchpoints – Email, SMS, retargeting—don’t rely on just one channel.
Optimize the checkout experience – If people want your product but still leave, something’s broken. Fix it.
The brands winning in 2025? The ones that have a system to recover the lost sale.
That said, I’m currently working on a Cart Abandonment Recovery Master Kit to help you achieve this. Stay tuned!

TikTok Might Go Dark—Are You Ready?
By now, you’ve probably heard the chatter—TikTok could get the plug pulled as soon as this Sunday night. Nothing’s confirmed, but if it happens, it’ll hit a lot of brands hard.
So, what should founders do?
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. If TikTok vanishes overnight, where does your audience go? How do you pivot? Do you have an email list? A strong presence on other channels? An owned community? If not, now is the time to fix that.
If this ban happens, it won’t be the first time a platform pulls the rug. Stay nimble, stay prepared, and keep building beyond any single platform.

MìLà Dumplings: Redefining Frozen Foods with Organic Storytelling
Mila Dumplings (aka @eat.mila) is setting a new standard for frozen food brands. Instead of just being an "immediate fix" or relying on cookie-cutter recipe videos (which work but rarely stand out), Mila is winning with a secret weapon: storytelling through organic content.
Organic marketing has become a cornerstone for brands looking to connect authentically with their audience. Low-cost production = high relatability.
Let’s break down how Mila nails it:
First Impressions Are Underrated
MìLà 's Instagram Highlights are designed to instantly engage visitors, featuring signature products like dessert dumplings and a 'New' section to spark urgency. Community-focused sections like “FAQs” and “Work with Us” build trust and transparency
Organic Content: The Real Goldmine
Forget 2018’s “talking about the product” or 2020’s “talking about the brand.” Mila’s approach is 2025-ready: they focus on the people who bring the brand to life.
Team-Led Narratives: Mila uses their employees to share stories about their products, keeping the tone genuine and relatable.
Mini-Series: Employees cooking dumplings in an office setting gives a fun, relatable vibe for their target audience—busy individuals looking for quick, delicious fixes.
Community Challenges: Founders jump into fun challenges to engage directly with followers.
Meme Culture: Meme about their social media manager exemplifies how the brand acknowledges their team as integral storytellers, reinforcing the idea that every person contributes to Mila’s essence.
Employee Spotlights: Instead of relying on influencers for expansion hype, Mila features their own team in announcement posts adding another personal dimension.
Authenticity: They peel back the curtain to show how their dumplings are made—building trust and transparency.
It’s Not All Organic 👀
While organic content is Mila’s bread and butter, they balance it with high-profile collaborations to maintain engagement. Their partnership with Uncle Roger is a prime example, blending relatability with star power.
đź’Ś Takeaways for Organic Marketing Success
If your budget is tight but you still want to dominate Instagram organically, here’s how to start:
Focus on Community: Instagram’s 2025 vision is all about fostering community. Create content that’s shareable and sparks conversation.
Gratify Your Audience: Run giveaways and interactive campaigns to keep engagement rates high.
Be Relatable: Showcase your team and the process behind your product to build trust and loyalty.
