IBRAHIM’S NUGGETS
3 Golden Nuggets from Successful Brand Founders (Part-1)
Heyy!
Over the years, I’ve spoken to, consulted, and worked with a lot of Founders—some of them were just starting out, some were in the business for years and struggling, and some of them were doing extremely well. So today, I’ll share 3 nuggets that I’ve learnt from the successful Founders as a Part-1, and on Monday & Tuesday respectively, I’ll share another 3 nuggets each as a Part-2 & Part-3. This, I hope, would give you enough time to process each of these points and consider implementing some points. I won’t be sharing any names out of respect.
Alright, let’s get into it..
Conduct monthly or bi-weekly audits of the business. This came from a founder generating about $50M a year.
Leave nothing up to "chance" when running on tight cash flow
Every expense, every subscription on the credit card, an employee's performance against their results, cash flow, and any vulnerabilities check it routinely
Someone also suggested canceling their virtual credit cards for subscriptions every quarter, except Q4, and it eliminates about 15-20% of expenses that recur with no usage
Negotiate at every point of breaking the "barrier”
Every time you hit some new milestone, like 1k, 5k or 10k orders per day, or processing $500k/day in revenue or placing MOQs of higher quantity, use that as a leverage to get better payment terms, better rates, or both
Most people just don't ask, so they never realize the savings or benefits
As you scale and hit new floors, negotiate with everyone. Contract manufacturers, shipping and trucking companies, payment processors, and BNPL solutions are all good places to start
Weekly "What's keeping you up at night" phone calls to your direct reports
I asked a question to multiple Founders in a virtual meet up, about how to keep teams moving quickly without road bumps, and the best advice was to call all your direct reports for 4 minutes every week, and ask, "What's keeping you up at night?". As a team leader, or a founder, it's your job just to unblock things for the people below you
This format is a 4 min phone call; by the end of the 4 minutes, you'll know what to work on. You don't need to have the answer right there, but just getting that data point sets you up to ensure your time has the biggest impact on your team's results.
Alright folks, that’s it for today. Have questions? Ask here. I’ll be answering all the questions on every Friday as part of the Q&As.
