Today's DTC news, tips, & tools you need to know

📆 Get ready for Prime Day

📰 TL;DR - We don’t know exactly when Prime Day is coming this year, but the bets are being placed on mid-July — perhaps the 11th or 12th. That means it’s time to prep. This quick guide gets into how to get yourself ready for Prime Day, including making sure your inventory is good to go and starting promos two weeks out. Also make sure to check out Amazon’s options for creating links for social media, so your marketing can include TikTok, Instagram, and the usual suspects.

💡 Insight - According to Jungle Scout, 68% of consumers are likely to shop on Prime Day, which means you can’t miss out if you’re on Amazon. Another great point in this piece is this: offer a good discount. I know that when I check out Prime Day deals, I want a real deal. A few bucks off simply isn’t compelling. People come into Prime Day like they approach Black Friday: they want a genuinely good deal. It’s a one-day shopping extravaganza, make it count!

🤖 Best AI apps for Shopify

📰 TL;DR - AI — it’s hot right now! Here’s a roundup of apps that use AI that are available to Shopify merchants. These really run the gamut of everything AI can do, from personalization, to product recommendations, to language translation, to sizing charts. Of course there are also apps to help with writing, such as product descriptions, which can save a lot of time.

💡 Insight - The big takeaway here is that AI can do a lot more than ChatGPT-style applications. AI apps are truly the future of running an e-commerce business, but they’re also very much available now. Take a look at this list and see what makes sense to add to your backend.

😇 Top social media customer service tools

📰 TL;DR - Here’s a roundup of social media tools for customer service. Being that this is an article from Sprout Social, they obviously include themselves, but also round out the list with Live Agent, Zendesk, Zoho Desk, and Freshdesk. If you do a little digging, you can find other brands in this space, such as Gorgias. The beauty of apps like these is that it can pull all your customer service messages into one space, saving a lot of time and effort.

💡 Insight - I’d say that investing in a solution like these is a must-have once you scale beyond being able to sanely check all your socials manually. It’s also important to note that customers are increasingly using social media as their first touch point for customer service. There’s a general sense that a DM will get a faster reply than an email. These apps also come with bonuses like easy personalization, order tracking, and sentiment detection.

📈 Unconventional revenue boosters

📰 TL;DR - This article has six ideas for unique growth tactics to boost revenue. This includes partnering with complementary brands, actually calling up your customers, hosting virtual events, doing a retail takeover, and offering pre-orders. All of them come with some risk or investment, but have the potential for great payoffs.

💡 Insight - Admittedly nothing on this list is super crazy or anything, but if things are feeling stagnant they all have the potential to shake things up. Setting up a pre-order landing page in particular is a neat idea because it’s relatively low-risk and gives you money up-front for a new product launch. The risk is less about investment and more about management so you can fulfill pre-orders while also having enough stock for regular orders.
