Today's DTC news, tips, & tools you need to know
🌿 This is how much customers are willing to pay for eco-friendly products
📰 TL;DR - A new survey dug into exactly how much customers care about sustainable products, and also how much they’re willing to pay for them. While 86% said they want brands to provide sustainable products, only 4 in 10 said they’re willing to pay more for them. As well, most of those willing to pay more only want to spend an extra $1 to $5.
💡 Insight - It’s a bit predictable, isn’t it? Customers love the idea of sustainability but ultimately care more about their budget. In fact, 63% said sustainability is just as important as budget-friendliness. That puts brands in a difficult position — how do you make your goods more sustainable without passing along additional costs to customers? Well, the good news is less waste is a top priority, and reducing your packaging could both save money and make customers happy.
🙋♀️ Tap into the power of micro-influencer creators*
Most brands either spend their budget on one-off influencer shoutouts or UGC content but our friends over at [minisocial] have a more inventive way to work with influencers. Their trick? Managing a group of micro-influencers perfect for your brand who provide both reach AND fully-licensed UGC content.
Care/of worked with [minisocial] to source more than 75 highly effective pieces of fully-licensed UGC content from micro-influencers with more than 480k+ combined followers, which in turn generated more than $6,200+ worth of earned media value!

👗 How to get your clothing line into retail stores
📰 TL;DR - This is a practical guide on how to attract retail interest if you have a clothing line. Really the bottom line is you need to have put the work into really defining your brand, your vision, and your products. You also need some industry-specific items, like line sheets. You also need to consider the nuances of getting goods ready for a retail environment.
💡 Insight - While this guide is tailored to clothing lines, there’s a lot of overlap with getting any sort of product into retail. Also, if you’ve done all this work to define your brand, it totally makes sense to build yourself up through DTC sales before exploring retail. And that does seem to be what the trend is these days.
✒️ Inkbox inks wholesale deal with Walmart
📰 TL;DR - Canadian temporary tattoo brand Inkbox will soon be appearing in a Walmart near you. The brand, which was founded in 2015, has been pure DTC up until this deal. They were acquired by BIC in 2022, who I can only assume had plans to take the brand to wholesale this whole time. In any case, it yet another example of a long-time DTC brand making the jump.
💡 Insight - Inkbox is a very interesting brand. They’ve made something as pedestrian, cheap, and novel as a temporary tattoo actually cool. I’ve actually been able to test their tattoos before and they’re quite convincing until they start fading (they last about two weeks). Clearly, there’s something in the water with all these DTC diehards moving to retail.
✨ Roundup: New e-comm tech releases
📰 TL;DR - PracticalEcommerce has a new edition of its tech update roundup, and there are some cool things on the list, such as:
Bold Commerce and PayPal collab for Adobe Commerce
New AI model for images from Meta
New small biz payment options from PayPal
Free email marketing from Amazon
💡 Insight - These lists are always worth a read, you’ll definitely see something that could add to your business. One I want to call out is a new AI-powered tool from Muck Rack to help find the right journalists to target with press releases. I used to work in a newsroom and I would receive dozens of press releases a day and very rarely was one actually relevant to my area of coverage. Blasting PR to uninterested journalists is a great way to get ignored or even blocked. It’s 100% worth taking the time to curate a list of media folks who have a higher likelihood of responding.
