💄 E-comm beauty is on the up and up
📰 TL;DR - We’ve seen a lot of worrying numbers about growth in various e-commerce markets, but the beauty biz is going strong. According to new data, beauty is expected to grow sales 6% per year through 2027. And the exciting part is that e-commerce sales will account for 26% of the total worldwide market. It’s an area that spiked during the pandemic, yet continues to grow.
💡 Insight - I think it’s worth noting that beauty has benefitted like almost no other category from influencers and social media. There seems to be a race on TikTok to be the first to review the newest, hottest indie brand’s offerings. It’s also a relatively affordable avenue into luxury. The downside here is that beauty is a very crowded market. We seem to hear about a new indie line or celeb beauty brand on the daily, so don’t tread lightly into this realm.

📦 What does 4-day shipping really mean?
📰 TL;DR - I came across an interesting Twitter thread started by Val Geisler that really got me thinking. She asked: “In your mind, does “3-4 business days” mean from the day you placed the order? Or from the day it ships? And does the day it ship count as one of those days?” And the majority of the replies say it should be from the time the order is placed, even though I don’t think most businesses operate in that way.
Shipping: In your mind, does “3-4 business days” mean from the day you placed the order? Or from the day it ships? And does the day it ship count as one of those days?
Without clarification from the brand, what is your expectation as a consumer?

💡 Insight - This really got me thinking about shipping and how it’s communicated to customers. My gut also says that if I see three-day shipping, I expect it on my doorstep in three days. Someone also pointed out that shipping notifications often only indicate that a label was made — not that an item actually made it to the truck. I think all this creates a lot of confusion and disappointment, especially when when Amazon says one-day shipping they really mean it. It’s probably a good idea to review what you tell customers and make sure it’s actually crystal clear what they should expect.
👙 Why Adore Me made a line just for Walmart
📰 TL;DR - Most of the time when we hear about a DTC brand entering wholesale, they’re doing that in the most straightforward way possible: simply making their usual goods available in retail. Maybe with some packaging tweaks, but basically the same goods. Adore Me lingerie took a different approach, though. For Walmart they created an entirely new and exclusive line called Adored by Adore Me. They’re cheaper than typical Adore Me DTC offerings and brought the brand to a whole new audience.
💡 Insight - This is such an interesting and smart approach. Adore Me’s DTC line isn’t really a fit for the Walmart customer, and the brand recognized this. With this line, Adore Me can reach a more budget-conscious shopper without impacting the integrity of their DTC pieces. And it stands to reason that a Walmart customer may go on to become a DTC customer. It’s obviously a larger lift to create a whole new line, but in this case it seems to be working. Think about how your brand could evolve in a wholesale setting.
