The 5 things in DTC you need to know today
#1 - 🥇 The top Prime Day products were…
📰 TL;DR - With Prime Day over we now know what the top-selling products during the event were, and number one is kind of surprising: cat treats. Temptations cat treats were the top item, followed by Amazon Fire Sticks, liquid IV packets, Echo Dots, and an indoor security camera. That’s all according to a great summary from Numerator. The report has some other great info, so click on through.
💡 Insight - This caught my eye because, cat treats? Really? But yes! A lot of the predictions ahead of Prime Day, based on surveys, were that people were looking for deals on big-ticket items and that they’d in fact been waiting for Prime Day to nab them. But this also shows that while people are shopping for things like electronics, they’re also eager to find deals on household staples — like cat treats, apparently. I personally picked up a great deal on a cat tree, so I get it.
#2 - 🔓 How to unlock media financing for e-commerce success
📰 TL;DR - Unlock the power of media financing with Juni, the financial platform built exclusively for e-commerce businesses. Get up to 90 days to settle Meta and Google Ads invoices, freeing up cash flow and boosting your ROI. Access credit lines up to €20 million with fees as low as 3%. 💡 Insight - E-commerce businesses invest 20-30% of their revenue in paid ads with Google or Facebook, but waiting for returns can strain cash flow. Juni provides the solution by offering flexible financing, allowing you to pay your invoices later. With extended payback periods, you can maximize your advertising efforts and scale your business effectively.

#3 - 🧐 More Prime Day insights
📰 TL;DR - Want more Prime Day data? We got ya. Adobe Analytics also did its annual Prime Day analysis and found some interesting patterns. First, by all accounts, it was an incredibly successful two days for Amazon. Record-setting even. Across both days, $12.7 billion was spent online in the US. As well, 6.5% of orders used buy-now-pay-later. Curbside pick-up was also a bit up and 44% of orders came from smartphones.
💡 Insight - There are a few insights we can pull from this data. First, if you sell on Amazon but didn’t participate in Prime Day — why? Also this follows trends we’ve seen generally, like the prevalence of mobile shopping and BNPL. Overall, I think these numbers indicate e-commerce is in a healthier place than many fear.

#5 - 🔗 How to find journalists for backlinks
📰 TL;DR - This piece from Practical Ecommerce goes over some techniques for finding journalists, bloggers, and other media types. The goal of getting coverage isn’t just the exposure that an article can bring (although that’s a big thing, too). Getting a backlink to your website in a prominent publication with a high ranking on Google is an excellent boost to your own SEO. This guide shows how to use Twitter and other tools to find writers.
💡 Insight - As someone who’s worked in several newsrooms, I want to give my own two cents about reaching out to journalists. First, be selective. Sending emails to everyone possible is a horrible strategy, most are going to ignore you. Rather, find people who already cover business, commerce, or shopping, or a category that relates to your product, like health. You should also know that most journalists aren’t allowed to accept products unless they’re reviewing them, so sending free stuff all willy nilly is just a waste. Shopping writers, however, are a good bet. These are the people who put together lists of hot items to buy. They’re the ones who might accept a gift and also ask for an affiliate link.
