Marketing Can't Save a Bad Product—Here's Why

Marketing can amplify your reach.

Viral videos can spark interest.

Funding can fuel growth.

But none of these matter if your product doesn’t deliver. A great product makes marketing easier. It turns customers into advocates. It creates momentum that money can't buy.

Isaac’s 4-year lesson is a reminder:

Your product is the core. Nail it, and the rest flows naturally, with some work, of course.

What do you think? Have you seen a mediocre product get propped up by marketing alone? Or does the product always win out in the end?

Ibrahim’s Nuggets

Happy Friday!

Going into the new year, I want to see where I can begin to leverage AI more. Here are some thought-starters and ideas of where I would want to play with it:

Within Ads Manager

Imagine a world where AI doesn't just provide you with data on ad performance but actively understands the nuances of your ad campaigns. Can AI identify patterns among winning ads and flag losers faster than a human eye could? This could drastically reduce the lag between testing and scaling. Also, think about AI generating a daily creative brief based on the ads that perform best across different accounts or business managers. This would mean fewer guesses and more data-backed insights to guide your creative team every day.

Within Creative

AI tools might not replace the intuition and expertise of creative strategists or seasoned ad video editors anytime soon. But tools like Sora and Butter are making it easier to produce high-quality, performance-driven creatives at scale. Instead of spending days creating one or two variations, these AI tools can help generate dozens of iterations quickly. This kind of speed and volume could allow you to test a higher number of creative ideas.

Within Site Optimization

Your website is one of your most critical assets, and AI could take its optimization to the next level. Picture a trained AI agent that tells you exactly what changes to make based on detailed traffic patterns and conversion data. Beyond that, an AI agent could simulate the top 1,000 ways users interact with your site every day. It could run these simulations to catch bugs, glitches, or broken elements before your customers encounter them. This level of automated quality control could mean a smoother, frustration-free experience for users—and higher conversions for you.

Within Email and SMS

Personalization is the holy grail of retention, and AI could push it even further. Imagine sending text messages or emails personalized on a 1:1 level, driven by everything you know about a customer—from past purchases to their browsing behavior. To make this a reality, zero-party data (information customers provide willingly) becomes even more critical. The more traits and insights you attach to each customer profile, the smarter your AI-driven messaging can become. The goal? Messages that feel so relevant and timely, they don’t just convert—they build loyalty.

This is just a tip of the iceberg. The AI world is moving really fast, and as I explore more of what AI can do in 2025, I’ll share them in DTC Daily’s newsletter, so if this email was forwarded to you, make sure to subscribe. And if you’re already a subscriber, I have one request for you: forward this email to one person that you think would find DTC Daily helpful - I’d really appreciate that!

Thank you.

👉Amazon Workers on Strike Amid the Holiday Rush

Thousands of Amazon workers across seven U.S. facilities, including major hubs have initiated strikes organized by the Teamsters union. The workers are demanding higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. Amazon maintains that its operations remain unaffected and disputes the union's claims.

With affordability and variety as key draws, platforms like Temu and Shein are the top choices for nearly half of Gen Z gift buyers this holiday season, even as sustainability concerns linger.

Temu's U.S. Seller Program provides American businesses access to over 185 million monthly shoppers, enabling them to sell through a consignment model. The program offers free participation for small sellers, flexible fulfillment options and a small fee structure, making it an attractive platform for DTC brands.
