Today's DTC news, tips, & tools you need to know
🤖 ChatGPT prompts for e-commerce SEO
📰 TL;DR - I know you all love some ChatGPT prompts, so here’s some from Practical Ecommerce, specifically for SEO. This piece has a ton of prompts for keyword optimization, content optimization, schema, technical SEO, and link-building. Also, did you know ChatGPT can respond in a table format? Handy!
💡 Insight - Also of note is that ChatGPT can take in longer prompts, expanding what it can do. I think keyword research is an incredible application of ChatGPT, and one you should be using. I also like that this doesn’t suggest fully using ChatGPT for content creation — if everyone has the same text, you’re not going to rank. Rather, use it to optimize and refine.

✨ Zalando launches ChatGPT-powered shopping assistant
đź“° TL;DR - European fashion platform Zalando has created a pretty cool assistant using ChatGPT. The new assistant will be able to understand natural language in your searches. For example, you could say you need an outfit for a gala at a ski lodge and it will understand you need something warm and wintery. It will also respond with a written explanation.
💡 Insight - This is the kind of AI innovation I love to see. It makes online shopping that much closer to the IRL experience. If you went to a store for an outfit, you wouldn’t say a bunch of keywords followed by a size — you’d explain the occasion and let the stylist do their work. I anticipate we’ll keep hearing of AI applications like this in e-comm.
🤠Why customer segmentation matters
📰 TL;DR - This is a great, single (albeit long) tweet reminder on what customer segmentation can do for you. Alex recommends taking a close study of exactly how your best customers — your VIPs — are shopping, including what they’re buying, and, importantly, what they’re buying together.
You can't turn every customer into a VIP.
And you can't "make" customers buy your higher margin or higher inventory products.
So, is it still worth studying what different customer segments buy from you?
I think the answer is YES.

💡 Insight - This is a short and sweet tip, but it’s a good one. The buying habits of your top customers is actually an awesome insight into how you can entice everyone else into a larger purchase. Don’t guess your bundles — make them based on buying patterns.
🤝 Brand collabs 101
📰 TL;DR - Here’s a guide to pulling off a brand collaboration. A collab could be with a fellow DTC brand, an influencer/creator, or a co-marketing venture. Collabs can benefit both parties, especially when you combine one brand’s great product with another brand or person’s audience. We see this all the time with influencers wanting to get in on e-commerce.
💡 Insight - This got me thinking about why we don’t see more collabs between DTC brands. Not that it never happens, but if you’re all in the same boat, you may as well both grab a paddle. So many brands could forge complimentary partnerships for a product launch or two — why not give it a try sometime?
