Today's DTC news, tips, & tools you need to know

😲 A Chrome extension every Shopify seller needs

📰 TL;DR - I came across this tweet pointing out a very useful Chrome extension for Shopify merchants. It's called Koala Inspector and, once added, it lets you see what theme and apps and Shopify-powered store uses. It'll even link you to the theme and app store.

💡 Insight - This is such a helpful tool. We've all visited a Shopify store and seen a feature or theme that we'd like to try out ourselves. The limitation here is that, of course, themes and apps can be customized. So while you won't get all the deets, this is a great starting off point. That's especially true for all you small business owners that I know don't have a dev handling the backend.

📈 Increase Your ROAS By 2.27X with Dynamic Product Ads*

A single product image on a white background looks bad. It doesn't stand out on a newsfeed, it's just... there. Imagine how much better those would work if they looked good. What if you could change that in under 30 minutes?

Well, you can. Twillory increased their ROAS by 2.27X by simply putting their logo and customer reviews in their DPA ad creatives, using Marpipe's free-to-start tool.

Marpipe is a design platform for marketers — all you need to do is upload your product catalog and you can transform it into beautiful ad creative in minutes.

⭕️ Target takes a big bet on e-comm

📰 TL;DR - Target has announced they'll spend $100 million to improve their e-commerce game. That money will fund larger supply chain hubs which will in turn make shipping faster for customers and cheaper for Target. The big goal is to increase the percentage of orders that can be delivered next-day. A spokesperson said they plan to deliver 50 million packages from sort centres this year, compared to 26 million in 2022.

💡 Insight - Another retailer trying to deliver on the promise of next-day delivery should definitely get your attention. The more major companies that offer this, the more customers are going to come to expect very speedy shipping as the default. It's always worth investing in solutions that can make shipping faster, cheaper, or both. It's a proven conversion tool and it's increasingly not just a nice-to-have, but a must have.

🏀 Why this brand partnered with student athletes at Baylor

📰 TL;DR - Hally is a hair-color brand that targets Gen Z and they've come up with a very clever marketing play. They partnered with Baylor University to use students as influencers. Specifically, they're using student athletes who can use the product to dye their hair in school spirit colors. Because of the official partnership, the athletes can wear their uniforms in posts promoting Hally. A collab with a college is a pretty rare thing and there are a lot of smart moves here to call out.

💡 Insight - This is such a unique approach to influencer marketing. First, the athletes they've tapped range from having just 1,000 followers to having 20,000+, catching both micro-influencers with highly attuned audiences and larger creators. What's also interesting is that this is only possible because, more and more, student athletes are being given leeway to engage in brand deals. Third, this sort of hyper-local approach can be replicated at other institutions. Student athletes as influencers is a smart idea and one worth pursuing if you have an angle that works.

🗣 Everything you need to know about conversational commerce

📰 TL;DR - The first thing you're probably wondering is, what the heck is conversational commerce? It's just a term that refers to using messaging or chat apps for e-commerce. Like, a chatbot on your website, or Facebook messenger, or SMS. This guide goes over the various applications of conversational commerce and how to get it going for your own business.

💡 Insight - All the stats I've seen have shown that chatbots in particular are a great conversion booster. The hardest part is setting it up for success using automation. Chatbots or other conversational commerce can actually cut down on your customer service tickets because they can provide self-service options for things like tracking packages or initiating returns. This piece is also helpful because it goes over what metrics to pay attention to when evaluating how effective your chat solution is.
